What you get

The finance function, covered.

Not a slide deck. This is the work a CFO would own, done on your books and your calendar.

Monthly reporting, with the story

Profit and loss, balance sheet, cash, and your key metrics in one pack each month, with a written read on what moved and why.

Rolling cash forecast and scenarios

A 13-week cash view plus base, best, and worst cases, refreshed monthly, so a slow month or a large purchase doesn't surprise you.

A budget you actually run

An annual budget and rolling forecast that gets compared against reality every month, not filed in January and forgotten.

Lender, buyer, and investor preparation

Statements, projections, and a tidy folder, plus answers to the question lists a bank or a buyer sends. We don't make or arrange loans.

Cash policy and owner pay

A written reserve target, a consistent owner-comp approach, and clear rules for debt paydown and equipment purchases.

The close calendar and controls

A monthly close on a fixed date, sign-off steps, and simple controls so no one is working inside the numbers alone.

Also part of the engagement

  • Payroll and headcount planning before you commit
  • Bank, merchant, and insurance paperwork and renewals
  • Coordinating your CPA, attorney, and payroll provider
  • A quarterly summary for a board, partner, or investor

How the month runs

A rhythm, not a standing invitation.

Advisory work goes quiet without a calendar. This is the cadence we hold.

  1. Weekly or every other week

A short working session on cash, the week's decisions, and anything that changed.

  2. Monthly

Close review of the reporting pack: what happened, what it means, and what to do next.

  3. Quarterly

A longer strategy session: forecast against plan, pricing, hiring, capital, and risk.

  4. Annually

Budget season run from real history, with the coming year's targets and a funding plan.

How it starts

The first 90 days.

Every engagement opens with a diagnostic. It ends with numbers you can run decisions on.

Days 1-30

Baseline. We get the books current and reconciled, learn how the business actually makes money, and fix the reports so they can be trusted.

Days 31-60

Model. We build the forecast, set the KPIs that match how you run the business, and write the first budget or rolling plan.

Days 61-90

Cadence. The monthly pack and the meeting rhythm are running, and any lender, buyer, or board prep starts from a clean position.

Fit

Who this is for, and who it isn't.

A good fit if

  • Owner-operated businesses past the startup stage, often near or above $1M in revenue
  • A lender, buyer, or investor who expects real reporting
  • Multiple locations, entities, or a finance person who needs direction
  • A hire you can't justify at full-time salary and benefits
  • Owners who want the finance function owned, not just reviewed

Not the right call if

  • Pre-revenue businesses still testing whether customers will pay
  • Books that are years behind and need cleanup first — catch-up work comes first
  • Owners who only want a monthly conversation about the numbers
  • Work that needs a CPA, an attorney, or a licensed broker

If you want a monthly conversation about your numbers rather than a finance function, the Small Business Financial Advisor is the smaller, less expensive engagement.

Why it costs what it costs

Less than a hire, more than a review.

A full-time CFO in West Michigan typically costs well into six figures once salary, payroll taxes, and benefits are added up — and hiring one means a search, a ramp-up period, and a role you keep whether or not the work stays busy. Many fractional CFO firms price for companies that are already raising money.

This engagement starts at $2,000/month. It's built for a business that needs the finance function owned and doesn't yet need a department. If the first 90 days show that a monthly review would serve you better, we'll tell you and move you there.

What we don't do, stated up front

  • JRK Financial is a bookkeeping and financial services firm, not a CPA firm.
  • We don't perform audits or attest work, and we don't sign tax returns. Your CPA or enrolled agent does that.
  • We're not an investment adviser and we don't sell securities. We're not a broker and we don't make or arrange loans.
  • We don't act as your attorney, and we won't give legal advice.

Questions

Fractional CFO FAQ

What does a fractional CFO actually do here?

We own the finance function short of a full-time hire: the monthly close and reporting pack, the forecast and scenarios, the budget, the cash policy, and the analysis behind pricing, hiring, and spending decisions. We also handle the paperwork a lender, buyer, or board asks for.

How much does it cost?

From $2,000 per month. The final price depends on how often we meet, how many entities or locations are in scope, and how much reporting is expected. Scope and price are confirmed before work starts, and bookkeeping and payroll are priced separately.

How is this different from the Small Business Financial Advisor?

The advisor is a monthly financial review with direct access between meetings. This engagement is broader: we run the forecast and the reporting, own the close calendar and controls, and prepare the packages other parties expect. If a monthly review would serve you better, we'll say so.

Do you hire and manage a finance team for me?

We can help you write the role, screen candidates, and supervise the work once someone is hired. The hiring decision stays yours.

Do we have to use JRK Financial for bookkeeping?

The engagement assumes books we control and can close on schedule. If someone else keeps your records, we start by reviewing them and will tell you plainly whether they need cleanup before advisory work is useful.

Is JRK Financial a CPA firm?

No. JRK Financial is a bookkeeping and financial services firm. We don't perform audits or attest work, we don't sign tax returns, and we're not an investment adviser. We coordinate with your CPA or enrolled agent, and tax preparation is available only when it's expressly included in your engagement.

Can you get us a loan or a line of credit?

We don't make or arrange loans. We prepare the statements, projections, and schedules a lender asks for and answer their follow-up questions, so your application isn't held up by your numbers.

How do we start?

A free consultation first. If it looks like a fit, the first 90 days are a paid diagnostic that ends with the baseline, the model, and the reporting cadence in place.
