What you get

Concrete deliverables, every month.

Not a vague retainer. Here's what the advisory work actually produces.

Monthly budget vs. actual

Where you planned to be, where you actually landed, and the two or three lines that explain the difference.

Rolling 13-week cash forecast

A simple week-by-week view of cash coming in and going out, so payroll, taxes, and big purchases don't sneak up on you.

Monthly 30-minute owner review

One focused meeting each month to walk through the numbers, answer questions, and decide what to do next.

Annual budget planning

Help building next year's budget from real history—revenue targets, staffing, pricing, and spending you can actually stick to.

Direct access between meetings

Questions about cash flow, margins, pricing, or a decision in front of you don't have to wait for the next review.

Built on books we reconcile

When we also keep your books, the advice starts from reconciled numbers—same office, same team, no handoff.

What it is and isn't

Most owners don't need a finance department. They need the conversation.

This is

  • One focused financial review each month, on your calendar
  • A forward look at cash that gets updated, not written once
  • A second set of experienced eyes on pricing, hiring, and spending calls
  • Straight answers about what your reports can and can't support

This isn't

  • A finance department. We don't run your back office or manage your staff.
  • A loan package, a board deck, or a due-diligence folder — that's a bigger engagement.
  • A guarantee of results, a tax position, or a legal opinion.
  • A substitute for your CPA. We coordinate with them, we don't replace them.

Why it's affordable

The expensive part of financial advice isn't the meeting; it's the guessing. When the books are reconciled and the forecast is kept current, a 30-minute review can cover what a longer engagement would. That's the whole idea: reliable books, a clear monthly read, a forward look at cash, and someone experienced to think it through with you — for $250/month.

How it fits together

Bookkeeping, payroll, and advice from one team.

Advice is only as good as the numbers under it.

Monthly bookkeeping

We categorize transactions and reconcile bank and credit card accounts every month, so the reports are accurate.

Monthly bookkeeping →

Payroll

Payroll through Gusto, quarterly filings, and year-end W-2s and 1099s, recorded cleanly so labor costs are clear.

Payroll services →

Financial advisor

The monthly review turns those reconciled numbers into decisions—what to price, when to hire, how much cash to hold.

Financial consulting →

Working with your CPA, not around them

We deliver tax-ready books and coordinate cleanly with your CPA or enrolled agent. Tax preparation and planning are available when they're expressly included in your engagement. JRK Financial is a bookkeeping and financial services firm, not a CPA firm.

Questions

Financial advisor FAQ

What actually happens in the monthly review?

We go through your reports together: what the month did, where it landed against plan, what cash looks like over the next 13 weeks, and the one or two decisions that need attention. You leave with a short written summary so the conversation doesn't evaporate.

How much does it cost?

The Small Business Financial Advisor is $250 per month. That includes the monthly 30-minute financial review, budget vs. actual, the rolling cash forecast, annual budget help, and direct access between meetings. Bookkeeping and payroll are priced separately based on your needs, and you'll know the price before work starts.

Do I need to use JRK Financial for bookkeeping?

No, but it helps. When we reconcile your books, the review starts from numbers we already trust. If someone else keeps your books, we'll read what they produce and tell you plainly if the reports need cleanup before they're useful for decisions.

What if my business outgrows this?

Then the conversation gets bigger — owning the forecast and the reporting, preparing what a lender or a buyer asks for, running the close calendar. We'll tell you plainly when that point arrives and what it would involve.

Is JRK Financial a CPA firm?

No. JRK Financial is a bookkeeping and financial services firm. We coordinate with your CPA or tax professional, and tax preparation and planning are available when they're expressly included in your engagement.

Who is this a good fit for?

Growing, owner-operated businesses that are past the startup stage—typically with steady revenue, a few employees or contractors, and decisions about pricing, hiring, or cash that feel bigger than they used to.

Do you work with businesses outside Kalamazoo and Portage?

Yes. We're based in Kalamazoo and serve Portage and West Michigan, and the monthly review works just as well by video for clients elsewhere in the United States.
